One practical guide for installing the right Windows build, learning the four workspaces, planning hardware, managing export licenses, and checking release status.

Windows installers

Choose the installer that matches your processor

Texel Forge supports Windows 10 with x86, x64, and ARM64 installers, and Windows 11 with x64 and ARM64 installers. Public releases use installers and support automatic application updates; portable builds are not offered. Each installer includes the application components it needs, so no separate .NET installation is required.

For 32-bit Intel and AMD Windows 10 PCs. It also runs on 64-bit Intel and AMD Windows 10 or Windows 11 systems, but x64 is preferred there for greater memory headroom.

For 64-bit Intel and AMD PCs running Windows 10 or Windows 11. This is the best choice for most Intel and AMD systems.

For ARM-based Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs, including devices that report an ARM64-based processor in System type.

Not sure which one you need? Open Windows Settings → System → About and check System type. Choose x86 for a 32-bit operating system or x86-based processor, x64 for a 64-bit Intel or AMD processor, and ARM64 for an ARM-based processor.

Getting started

Install, choose a workspace, and inspect before export

    Install

    Download the installer for your processor, run it, approve the Windows installation prompt, and choose an installation folder if you do not want the default.

    Open the right workspace

    Start in Texel, Mesh, Repair, or Image Forge according to the source material and the result you need.

    Prepare and inspect

    Confirm scale, orientation, texture, colors, topology, and dimensions while moving among the connected workspaces.

    Save, then export

    Save the project before creating final output. Evaluation Mode has no time limit; export requires an active paid license.

Core workflow

Import, prepare, diagnose, and hand off

  • Confirm model scale and orientation immediately after import.
  • Review photographic texture-to-palette results at boundaries and fine details.
  • Use Repair Forge when diagnostics identify open boundaries, orientation conflicts, or non-manifold geometry.
  • Continue directly in Mesh Forge or Texel Forge when the result needs composition or color preparation.

File support

Common 3D and image sources

The shared model importer accepts GLB, glTF, FBX, OBJ, STL, and 3MF. Image Forge accepts common image formats and can use the first page of PDF or DOCX documents. Transparent image margins can be ignored when the visible subject should define the generated outline.

Practical tutorials

Start with a workflow that shows what texture-aware geometry can do

Prepare a photographic textured model

Use an Earth-style model or another richly textured object whose surface detail would be impractical to paint manually in a slicer. Import the textured mesh, detect a palette that matches the intended printer, inspect fine color boundaries, and preview the generated geometry before export.

Inspect and repair detailed geometry

Open a model such as the radio demonstration in Repair Forge, read the reported boundaries and non-manifold signals, apply the least invasive repair that addresses the problem, and compare the original and repaired states before continuing.

Create a piece from artwork or a transparent cutout

Use an opaque image when the entire rectangular canvas matters, as in the Mona Lisa demonstration, or a transparent image when the visible subject should define the outline. Set the physical dimensions, inspect alpha edges, then continue in Mesh Forge or Texel Forge.

Final review

Verify dimensions, orientation, repaired regions, texture boundaries, and the intended printer palette. Save the project before export and confirm that the selected license covers personal, educational, or commercial use.

System requirements

Choose memory for the models you plan to build

These are engineering estimates rather than fixed model-size guarantees. Texel Forge supports Windows 10 on x86, x64, and ARM64, and Windows 11 on x64 and ARM64. The x86 build is fully supported for smaller projects, but its 32-bit address space limits how much model and texture data one application process can hold. Use x64 or ARM64 when the system supports it and the project needs more memory.

Minimum estimate — smaller projects

Processor and memory

  • Four-core processor using the x86, x64, or ARM64 installer that matches Windows
  • For x64, Intel Core i5-8250U or AMD Ryzen 3 3200G class or better
  • 4 GB RAM for x86; 8 GB RAM for x64 or ARM64. The x86 build has a smaller 32-bit process address space and is intended for smaller projects.

Graphics, display, and storage

  • DirectX 11-compatible graphics with a current driver
  • 1280 × 720 display
  • 1 GB free storage for installation and update staging, plus project space

Rough workload example: On x64 or ARM64, up to about 250,000 source triangles, one or two 2K textures, and moderate bake and repair settings. x86 capacity will be lower when textures or generated geometry approach its process-memory limit.

Large projects — 32 to 64 GB of RAM

Use 32 GB RAM and an eight-core processor for multi-million-triangle meshes, multiple 4K or 8K textures, or intensive bake and repair operations. Consider 64 GB RAM above roughly five million generated triangles or for long editing sessions that keep several model states in memory.

What affects performance

Textures expand in memory

A decoded 4K RGBA texture uses about 64 MB and an 8K texture about 256 MB before preview copies and other working data.

Baking creates geometry

Fine sampling can turn a compact source into millions of generated triangles. A larger texel step reduces detail, time, and memory use.

Repair keeps working copies

Diagnostics and repair can retain source, repaired, preview, and intermediate geometry at the same time.

Preview and processing differ

The GPU draws the preview. Baking, topology analysis, and repair primarily use CPU performance and system RAM.

Licenses and orders

Activate export only when you need it

Evaluation Mode has no time limit. Import, composition, color baking, repair, Image Forge, and preview stay available without activation; export requires a paid license. The planned Personal Use license supports one activated device, while Commercial Makers and Commercial Professional support two.

    After the store launches, use the purchase receipt or Lemon Squeezy My Orders.

    Enter the key and the same email address used at checkout, then activate the current device.

    Release devices before replacement

    Use Deactivate this device before retiring a computer or removing local licensing data.

Troubleshooting

The application keeps preparation work available

The license does not validate

Confirm the key and purchase email, check the connection, verify that a device slot is available, and make sure the installed release supports the purchased catalog.

The store is not active

Continue in Evaluation Mode and return after checkout opens. Every preparation workspace remains available; only export is locked.

An update check fails

The installed application remains usable. Try the manual check later or return to the Downloads section for the current installer.

Export is locked

Open License & plans and validate the current activation. Expired, disabled, invalid, incompatible, or deactivated licenses return the app to Evaluation Mode.

  • Documented the connected Texel, Mesh, Repair, and Image Forge workflow.
  • Added approved photographic textured-model, repair, Mona Lisa, and transparent-cutout examples.
  • Consolidated downloads, documentation, tutorials, requirements, licensing help, troubleshooting, and release notes into this Help Center.

This is launch preparation, not a numbered public desktop release. Future entries will list the application version, release date, additions, important fixes, supported-platform changes, known limitations, and any required customer action.
